FANDOM is an innovative social networking site for doctors in the UK. The site leverages social-networking and content-management technologies to facilitate communication between doctors and provide a medium for discussion and the reporting of news and events from clinical practice. Epidaurus combines features of Myspace, Facebook and Digg with a clean, simple interface that targets a defined professional userbase. Launched in January 2007, the site is growing rapidly in popularity amongst UK doctors.

Epidaurus provides the following services to members:-

  • Profile: Doctors complete a profile page describing professional background and specialist interests.
  • Professional contacts: Doctors maintain a list of professional contacts and are alerted when new content is added to Epidaurus by these contacts.
  • User-generated content: Doctors contribute blog articles, collaborative documents, polls forum posts.
  • Feedback: Members add comments to any of the content posted on Epidaurus. Content is rated for relevance by members and the most popular items are promoted to the front page.

Registration to the site is limited to registered medical practitioners in the UK; a GMC number is required.
