FANDOM is a free online dictionary and thesaurus created by a community of volunteers in 1997, in the early days of the Internet.

A few months after the creation of the site, a large number of other dictionary sites came online, most of them solely built to serve pop-ups and banners in conjunction with reference content.

In reaction to these intrusive practices, most of the founders of the dictionary of definitions decided to position their website as the best alternative for those looking for a comprehensive reference source with a particularly well designed graphical interface.

Today, the original site has evolved into a powerful and free online antonym and synonym dictionary, comprising hundreds of thousands of definitions. The simplicity, and the elegance of its interface, make this web site one of the favorite online dictionaries on the net.

The dictionary comprises three sections: Word definitions and examples; Thesaurus resources; a by invitation-only online translation section.
