[edit] Why put all pages in this?
Just because I don't know the reasoning behind it: is there any reason to have this when Special:AllPages exists? For the pages, at least. I agree with a super-category for all categories, but is putting all pages in the Browse category necessary, or just a leftover from when this was a part of the Scratchpad?
- The category should not contain all pages. (Maybe the current crop is a leftover from Scratchpad days.) However, every page should be in at least one subcategory that is a "descendant" category of this, so that a reader can "browse" the category "tree" and thus find any page by knowing what sort of page it is or what general subject area it falls into, without needing to know any word in the page's name. The Wikia standard setup (which you may see at http://starter.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Browse) gives this category only three subcategories: Content, Imsges, and Organization, with a couple of "overall" pages also in it. A developed wiki may have a few more of each. Clearly some contributors here have been putting pages in this category, perhaps out of a misguided sense of duty, without having learnt the value of having a system of subcategories. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 05:03, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
